Dear Hunter: Episode 10 — The Matrix 4

Dear Hunter

Hello friends and greetings from Huntington, New York. We are currently halfway through our first tour of 2013 and it’s been going extremely well. I used to dislike touring, but now I thoroughly enjoy it. Sure, it sucks to be away from family and loved ones, or the comforts of your own toilet, shower, and bed; but I’ve grown to appreciate the opportunity I have to travel the world and play music for our fans. To quote the great Jamey Jasta, I “live for this”.

The current tour we are on has put us in front of a younger audience. They have no idea about all the drama Chimaira went through over the past few years, nor do they care. They are there to have a good time and so are we. We’ve been bringing our A-game and it’s been translating.

If there’s one thing I’ve figured out in this matrix of a world we live in is that we create our own perspective. We choose to be happy, or sad. I used to choose to be miserable on tour, now I choose to enjoy it. It also helps that we’ve been around the block and have learned how to do it right.

Speaking of living in the matrix, I think that’s what we live in. Every day weird shit happens that makes me think there’s a glitch that the ungodly amount of thc I injest hourly has provided me with a glimpse to see. Example, the other day this dude came on to our bus for an interview that looked like Panama Jack. Our guitarist Matt walked up giving no fucks and said “Hey, what’s up Panama Jack” (we were all thinking it, this dude just says it).

Now I haven’t thought about Panama Jack since I was 8 years old, but later that night we get to Wal*Mart and sure enough — there’s a giant fucking Panama Jack sign.

Coincidence? No. That’s a glitch in the matrix and I’m onto it like Neo.

Another example was the day before we launched our Indidegogo campaign, a palm reader told my girlfriend I was about to make a bunch of money. While I personally didn’t make a bunch of money, our band did and because of that we are now able to make videos and a dvd that we otherwise wouldn’t have had the budget to do.

If you think for a second I buy into any of this metaphysical mumbo jumbo I’m spitting you’re higher than I am, but I do want to thank our fans for helping us kick off 2013 on the most positive note Chimaira has had in years.

Onward and upward, the new album is heavy, the videos are going to rule, and the live show is becoming the fiercest yet. Thanks to all of you and see you soon!

Current Tour Movies we’ve rocked:
Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3, and 4
National Lampoon’s Vacation (all of them)
Jurassic Park 3D
Iron Man 3D

Current Tour Music: 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Kanye, Ludacris, Outkast, Kendrick Lamar

One hopes that there is some Die Hard on that bus or at least one Schwarzenegger movie!!
Or Django! Get yourselves a heaping helping of white guilt; should make listening to that hippty hoppty shit fade real quick.

There was one moment, while watching you guys on stage, where i looked up and didn’t see Rob or Jim’s face stage left and it made my heart hurt.
The energy that poured from Emil and you guys during that set put my fears and worries to rest and reminded me that its the music i want, no matter who’s on the stage (although these guys are epically awesome).

This positive Mark shit is pretty righteous. :)
