By now, you’ve probably been made aware — either by a friend or a Web site like this one — of the band Exotic Animal Petting Zoo. In the event you know nothing about these dudes, they’re pretty fucking fantastic.

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo combines the tenacity of Dillinger Escape Plan, Deftones and At The Drive In, if you can believe that. These dudes specialize in eclectic and melodic ultra-heavy aural madness, and their new album, Tree of Tongues, is one of the year’s best releases, by far.

Don’t believe me? That’s cool. But I guarantee you that in three months’ time, you’ll be claiming you were into the band long before their album came out. I know you — you’d do that.

Tree of Tongues was produced by Stephen Hawkes (Red Fang, Silent Civilian), and at the end of this post, you can hear a cut from the new disc (which is in stores next week).

The song is called “You Make Wonderful Pictures” and I think it crushes.
