They’re not metal, as such. Dark, atmospheric hard rock? You bet, brother. If pressed to compare them to other bands, I’d say Grandfather sound like a cross between Tool and The Mars Volta — two bands most metal fans appreciate. And you should also appreciate Grandfather.
At the end of this post, we’re proudly streaming a track called “Spun,” taken from the band’s new album In Human Form.
The band’s record was produced by Alex Newport, who has worked with Fudge Tunnel, the Mars Volta and the Melvins.
The Brooklyn-based quartet’s new disc drops August 13.
Determined to preserve humanity in music during an increasingly digitalized time (a theme that extends to the album’s lyrics and title), the band worked extremely close with Alex at Magic Shop studios. While a lot of bands will record and the producer will edit a bad performance in post, Newport encouraged the band to keep working on songs until they were just right.
Grandfather will perform a special record release show on August 17 at New York City’s Pianos.
Also playing are Godmaker, Crooked Man (featuring John LaMacchia from Candiria), Netherlands, and Me You Us Them.
Now, listen to this song and fall in love. You have no excuse not to listen, seeing as we’ve given you two methods to do so.
