The topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we are excited to continue this ongoing series with an entry written by Craig Lociero from SpiralArms.
One of the perks of being in a band with Tim Narducci is getting to hear some of the bands he produces. I could name a few, but ZED — hailing from San Jose, California — has a record that is available called Desperation Blues.
There is such a simple, crushing and majestic blues sound to this band! We’ve had the honor to share the stage with them on a number of occasions over the last year and they are getting better and better. ZED deserves to be heard!
This would be a band you would think MOST metal and hard rock fans have heard of because Michael Amott is in the band…but many still have not.
I can’t understand that, so I’m going to throw them up here in hopes that more people listen to Spiritual Beggars and catch up to their past catalog of amazing records. Michael is one of my favorite living guitarists and plays like every note matters more then the next breath.
This goes back all the way to his time in Carcass and into Arch Enemy. But for my taste, Spiritual Beggars may be the most underrated heavy rock band in existence.
This is an immensely unique Bay Area band that many famous musicians know of and respect, yet most normal music lovers have not been lucky enough to hear or see them. It’s a crime that these guys are not world renowned and able to bring their musical circus around the world.
The two guitarists, Brian Kehoe and Marv (Mirv) Haggard are absolutely astonishing players! Two mega-talented icons in our Bay Area scene who’s names pop up with the likes of Elliot Easton (the Cars), Rick Nielson (Cheap Trick) and other hero’s of rock n roll. Just ask them about M.I.R.V.! These guys never got to make a record that was as strong as their live performances, but they do have three solid efforts out there that you can find on iTunes.
M.I.R.V. have been painfully overlooked by the industry and the music lovers have missed out.
