Band Manager Tommy Galond’s Top 10 Of 2011
Posted by Chris Harris on December 12, 2011 in Exclusive, Huh?
We put out a call here at Gun Shy Assassin to various folks in the industry seeking their Top 10 albums of 2011, and most people told us they were too busy Christmas shopping to give a fuck. But some folks did respond, and we’ll be bringing you their lists over the next couple of weeks.First up is Tommy Galond — an illustrious music manager who briefly worked with Tiger Flowers and also represents a few exotic entertainers these days.
Man, oh man, was this a great year for Br00tal music! And I know something about music, I saw Van Halen at the Whiskey with my buddy Gene before they ‘Erupted.’ I’ve been behind the scenes for years and this year, my little pussy farts, is THE year for all that is Heavy!!!
10: Dr. Acula: Slander, Victory Records
I mean, what’s not to like here? Clever name, weird guitar tones and mosh parts galore! I mean, this is what the kids have been waiting for. I put this record on and it’s like being babysat by a cool older guy doing cocaine off my adolescent boner. AWESOME!
9: Design the Skyline: Nevaeh, Victory Records
Three words: CRAB, MOSH, HAIR! These girls have it all! Who knew Latina chicks could throw down so hard! Not this Mensch that’s for sure. Those of you who have seen me lately have probably noticed my hair getting longer. I’m trying to grow out the “Swoop” in honor of these gals!
8: Emmure: Speaker of the Dead, Victory Records The way Maryland does crab cakes and football is what Victory does with crab and mosh. Only awesome! At #8 we have Emmure, once again showing us what the Acacia Strain would sound like if they listened to Bayside.
7: Jasta: Jasta, eOne
What do you get when Nickleback, Creed and Spineshank listen to Shadows Fall while doing Tae Bo? JASTA MOTHERFUCKERS!!!
6: Bury Your Dead: Mosh and Roll, Mediaskare
I just didn’t know they still played. I haven’t heard this record but I’m sure it’s br00tal!
5: Silverstein: Rescue, Hopeless Records
What do all these bands have in common so far? They all are or have been on Victory Records at one point or another. Sticking with the formula, here comes Silverstein, still sound tracking my high school life…even though High school for me was three-and-a-half decades ago. Also, two singers = twice as AWESOME!
4 and 3: Asking Alexandria: Reckless & Relentless and Stepped Up and Scratched, Sumerian Records
These chaps were busy this year! Two albums! So they come in at 4 and 3, respectively, for top albums of the year. You wanna be intimidated? Pit it up at one of these guys’ shows. Whoa!
2: Metallica and Lou Reed: Lulu, Warner Bros.
Metallica. Lou. Reed. Take a band that’s lost it’s balls and pair it up with a gremlin that has lost his mind and you get the #2 album of the year! ARE YOU THE TABLE?!?!
1: Korn: The Path of Totality, Roadrunner Records
THEY ARE BACK!! And better than ever with the help of Digi-God Skrillex! Korn, the Madonna of heavy reinvent, themselves while inventing the next generation of heavy music! Not only is this hands down the best record of the year, it’s gonna be the best record for years and years to come! We enter the age of stepping dub. Are you ready?
