Jesse Get Your Gun: The Top 10 Of 2011
Posted by Jesse James Madre on December 13, 2011 in Jesse Get Your Gun
We put out a call here at Gun Shy Assassin recently to various folks in the industry seeking their Top 10 albums of 2011, and most people told us they were too busy Christmas shopping to give a fuck. But some folks did respond, and we’ll be bringing you their lists over the next couple of weeks.Next up is Jesse James Madre, from Tiger Flowers. Jesse also happens to be one of our columnists here, and his list is pretty much perfect. At least that’s my opinion.
Wow! 2011 has been a crazy year so far. We lost Steve Jobs, Obama took out Osama to distract us from the loss of other “jobs.” He cancelled the space program, so being an astronaut is another job you
can no longer have, another dream that will only ever be a dream. We lost a real person behind one of the masks in Gwar, making us all step back to remember that those aren’t aliens under all that foam. Making us remember, we are all, only human. Making us realize that life is like any song, and there is a part in both where the time passed is greater than the time left.
The advantage goes to music where we can see the end and know there is always the repeat button. I believe that music keeps us young, and as long as Obama or any other suit can’t take that away from us in the coming years, we will all be alright. We will all have a shoulder to lean on. We will all know that someone out there feels the way we do.
With music we are not alone.
Here’s a look back on the best of 2011! I’ve compiled a personal top 10 of my own with one disclaimer: I’m lazy when it comes to hearing new music. If it’s not played for me or if I don’t catch it live out at a bar or on the road, I don’t go out and hunt it down. Even in this digital age where it is so easy to do. (I will pay for my sloth at the tail end of my sins).
So here it is, in my awesomely shitty opinion, the best of 2011…in no particular order.
Elitist: Fear in a Handful of Dust, Season Of Mist
East Of the Wall, The Apologist, Translation Loss
KEN Mode: Venerable, Profound Lore
Tombs: Path of Totality, Relapse
The Black Dahlia Murder: Ritual, Metal Blade
Meek is Murder: Algorithms, Metal Sucks
Engineer: Crooked Voices, Black Market Activities
Trap Them: Darker Handcraft, Prosthetic
Fuck the Facts: Die Miserable, Relapse
Khann: Erode, Black Market Activities
