Avenged Sevenfold: ‘We Didn’t Ask’ Portnoy To Quit

Miss Bomb

You know, I’ve been wondering how the Avenged Sevenfold dudes found out Mike Portnoy — the drummer who plays on their recent LP and is their touring drummer, replacing late drummer The Rev — did what we all thought was impossible: He quit the band he was the best-known member, moving James Labrie into the top spot.

But Miss Bomb asked Johnny Christ of Avenged Sevenfold how they heard the news. That’s Miss Bomb in the picture; some British chick. I admire her hard hitting questions and I was on her MySpace page and looked at all of her photos and this one made my nipples hard. But some of the pictures…I don’t know if it’s angles or lighting, but I can’t tell if she’s hot. People probably say that when they see my Facebook pictures. But hey, Miss Bomb…if you’re ever in New York, let’s get a drink.

She asked Christ what his feelings were when he first found out: “It was pretty crazy. He came backstage and told us and it was like, ‘Wow!’ I can’t really imagine Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy, so, you know, as a fan, it was pretty crazy news. As far as it goes with us, that was his decision that he made and had nothing to do with our reflection of anything and we don’t even know what’s going on yet. So, you know, to have him do that was pretty nutty (laughs), but I guess its something he’s been thinking about for a long time coming.”

Christ also explained that he was thrilled Mike cautioned Dream Theater fans that his stint with Avenged had nothing to do with his decision. “We liked that, you know. We were worried, we didn’t want some of the Dream Theater fans to like, ‘Oh, yeah, those Avenged Sevenfold guys.’ But, like I said, it wasn’t the case at all. We didn’t ask him to do that; it was just kind of his thing.”
