Devin Townsend: Interview Leftovers

Devin Townsend

Last week, I posted a new interview with the one and only Devin Townsend, perhaps my favorite artist of all time. For real. But not everything he said made it into the article because some of it, I just couldn’t find an appropriate place to stick it in. Sort of like having sex with a dead girl. I mean, what’s appropriate when you’re fucking a dead girl? Is the ass off limits?

So, some of what Devin told would’ve ended up gone forever. But some of it was just too good to delete. So I bring you the Devin Townsend Interview Leftovers…just a few tasty morsels from what didn’t make it into my original piece.

On his favorite album, which I guessed was Terria:
“They’re all equal in a lot of ways,” he says. “My favorite is always the one I’ve heard less. Terria I’ve heard for ten years. Ghost I’ve heard for two months, so that’s my favorite one.”

On whether he’d do any of records over again:
“Well, Physicist and SYL…both of those didn’t come across the way I wanted them too, but I still love the music. They’re all just right, really. They’re all what they should be.”

On when we’ll get the next Ziltoid LP:
“Once this DTP thing is under wraps. Essentially I feel like I’ve had the opportunity to make a statement and summarize a period of personal change through these four records, and then after that, I am working slowly on Zid². I want to take it slowly. I want it to be an event. I want these four records to convince someone with a whole lot of money that I’m worth investing a whole bunch of money into and making a show like a spectacle, with, like, performers and orchestras and, like, huge Ziltoids, and a concept that’s really engaging. That is the goal, right? But who knows. In between, I may end up dong something else.”

Just saw Dev in Portland and enjoyed it more than most of the shows I have seen in my 40 years. I support anything he does.
