Dir En Grey Map Out North American Tour

See...?

Back in January, I flew over to Japan to cover a Dir En Grey show for Noisedweeb, and it was probably one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. I spent most of my time with Full Metal Jackie and interviewed the band…footage of which, I am told, is on their new live DVD, Uroboros – With The Proof In The Name Of Living… At Nippon Budokan. I haven’t watched it yet because I don’t have a copy.

Man, if you’ve never been to Tokyo, trust me…you need to go. It’s awesome. Overall, a fairly efficient city. It would remind you of New York, only with better subway systems and shorter skirts. DUDE, all of these smoking hot Japanese chicks walk around in ridiculously short skirts. Perfect place if you wanted to install a shoe-cam. Anyways, Dir En Grey are coming to the states this year with Apocalyptica. The tour begins in Toronto on August 23 — just two days before my birthday — and wraps in Seattle September 12.

No, I was not a huge Dir En Grey fan before boarding a plane bound for Tokyo. But seeing them live turned me, as did meeting the dudes in the band. One thing’s for sure, Dir En Grey are huge over there. Like Linkin Park and Nickelback, combined. The music is fucking extreme, and no, you can’t understand it because its in Japanese, but the dudes were righteous and I can’t speak ill of them. I like Dir En Grey. And I love Japan. Anytime anyone wants to fly me over there, just say the fucking word.

Glad to see you like Dir en grey! They are incredibly talented and a wonderful addition to the American market with their blend of progressive rock and metal – despite their language barrier.
