Doomriders Drummer JR Conners Jumps Ship

Doomriders

Well, you know…he’s got a lot going on, what with Cave In mounting a comeback and whatnot. So drummer JR Conners has relieved himself from stoner metal outfit Doomriders.

But don’t worry, little childrens. This sudden announcement will have no effect on the band’s upcoming September 6 gig with the almighty Sleep in Brooklyn, which every metalhead worth his salt in the Tri-State area will be attending; Ben Koller of Converge is filling in for Conners. Unearthly Trance are also on the bill. Guess what? Doomriders — who happen to be one of the lovely Jen Guyre’s favorite bands — issued a statement on JR’s ship jump.

“JR Conners will be surrendering drum duties in Doomriders,” the band wrote in an online statement. “A family, a career, and two bands is a lot to juggle so though we are sad to see him go, we also wish him all the best. We love you JR! Ben Koller of Converge and Acid Tiger will be filling in for the time being and we are all very excited to have him. He will be on drums for the show on September 6 — so don’t miss it!”

That’s too bad….I really loved their last disc and it’s constantly at the top of my playlist. Real cool dudes too. I got to interview Nate for a show the band played with Skeletonwitch back in March at the Webster Underground. Also got to talk their guitarist Chris a bit at the show…awesome band, I wish they could do more. Plus, they liked the article so much they gave me a free piece of merch off their table…I took the vinyl version of the latest record. Great band, great guys…
Also, their song Lions helps me through tough times…
