Heavy Metal Fans Could Impact 2012 Presidential Election

Pantera

Oh yeah, bitches. It was in U.S. News and World Report, so that shit must be true.

According to this article, if independent voters are going to decide November’s election as politicos are claiming, then Barack Obama and Mitt Romney should be spending some more time wooing heavy metal fans.

A new joint analysis of Americans’ music habits and political beliefs reveals rather predictable results: fans of country artists are most commonly Republican, while Madonna, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna top the Democratic list.

But metalheads? The analysis showed it was impossible to predict the political leanings of metal lovers.

Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Alice in Chains, and three other heavy metal bands are among the top 10 artists with the “highest confusion.”

“There’s these heavy metal and death metal bands, and there’s two kinds of people who like that kind of music,” says Brian Whitman, CTO of The Echo Nest, who conducted the analysis.

He claims metal fans are usually people who are either politically independent or apathetic. Dickwad.

I have to question this analysis. Who the hell did they survey? Because here are the Top 10 bands pinpointed for the “Hardest to Predict” category of political affiliation.

The Beatles, Marilyn Manson, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Paradise Lost, Moonspell, Fleetwood Mac, and…Tiamat.

Tiamat? Moonspell? Are there that many fucking people listening to those two bands? I’m stunned.
