Mastodon, Dillinger, Mars Volta Members Forge Supergroup

Ben Weinman of Dillinger Escape Plan

I’ll say! That’s a super-duper supergroup. I mean, it’s the former drummer from Mars Volta, who I couldn’t name if you held a gun to my head, but Brent Hinds from Mastodon is also in the unnamed supergroup side project.

Noisecreep got the inside scoop on the side project, which also boasts Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, and, the cherry on top, ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery. The name of the former Mars Volta drummer is Thomas Pridge.

I don’t know how long he was with the Volta, but he must be good, and — well, frankly, time is short. I don’t have countless hours to Wikipedia the drummers for Mars Volta.

All of the various members live all over the U.S. so progress on a first album has been sluggish. “We tried to get together and do an album, but there’s been no time,” Hinds told Noisecreep. “We want to record crazy stuff and Ben is working on that, but it’s been hard to get together.”

Hinds said he wants to call the new band Giraffe Tongue “because they look sick.” So long as you don’t call it Catt Butt, I don’t care.

Thomas was my favorite TMV drummer, imo. But this sounds like the greatest side project ever.

Thomas Pridgen. He drummed on Bedlam in Goliath and Octahedron, but is no longer with The Mars Volta.  Personally, I think he is one of the best drummers around right now.  He combines rock, jazz, hip hop, and fusion when he plays.
