Mastodon Reveal More About Upcoming LP, The Hunter

Mastodon

Atlanta progressive metal act Mastodon keep teasing fans with new information about the record they’ve been in the studio for months now, working on. The more I hear about the record, the more excited I become. I can’t explain it, but I want to give Mastodon another chance. If this next LP doesn’t massage my metaphoric prostate, I’m done.

The Hunter, the follow-up to Crack The Skye, will — the band revealed today — feature the songs “Stargasm,” “Curl of the Burl,” and “The Octopus Has No Friends.”

The band recorded the effort at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo, and it now appears that the band will be releasing it in October. No official release date has been set, but October is the month they’re shooting for.

Other songs on The Hunter include “The Sparrow,” “The Ruiner,” “Blasteroids,” and “All The Heavy Lifting,” which is allegedly — quite literally — just about lifting heavy stuff.

I’m excited for this album! The odd track titles seem to hint at a possible return to a pre Crack The Skye Mastodon.

Not that I don’t enjoy Crack The Skye, I just see that effort as coming from a very different band.

    Here’s hoping for another Leviathan!

What do you mean by “give Mastodon another chance”? where did they fail exactly?

I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of Crack the Skye

They didn’t fail, they can’t make everyone like their music, because everyone has different taste. But whatever they do, they have the biggest respect from me, i know it will be candysweet :)

I did enjoy Crack The Skye but I see that effort as a very different band, musically speaking of course.

    Here’s hoping for another Leviathan!

Crack the Sky is one of my favorite albums of all time, but I get why some fans wouldn’t dig on it as much as the first three LPs. I’m personally hoping they end up blending the improved vocals on that record with the brutality of Blood Mountain. Doesn’t really matter though, whatever those guys do I’m sure it will be awesome.
