Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt Hospitalized After Car Accident

Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt

That headline blows on so many levels, and I don’t know even where to begin here.

I will reassure you and let you know his injuries aren’t life threatening.

So let’s start with the facts. Tonight, Opeth apparently cancelled its scheduled appearance in Minnesota.

We also know that the band’s tour manager basically informed the bummed out crowd that Mikael Åkerfeldt was allegedly involved in a car accident — the severity of which remains unknown.

The Gauntlet claims Mikael broke his arm and was in the hospital for treatment.

Åkerfeldt is said to be recovering and is expected to return to the stage as soon as he’s able. Both Ghost and Mastodon played extended sets to make up the difference.

Further details will be available soon, I am sure.

Brann Dailor of Mastodon said several times at the end of their set that Mikael had hit his head which leads me to question the broken a story.
