Wendy and Dio

Oh, Wendy Dio…will your thirst for wealth ever be sated?

During the 1980s, I was a kid. I played Nintendo, rode my bike, tried to french chicks, and had a wicked tree fort. I was also into Motley Crue, Poison, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest. I missed Hear N’ Aid, though. I don’t remember this at all.

Apparently, Hear N’ Aid was metal’s answer to all the charity tracks written during the ‘80s to help farmers and feed Africa. After the jump, you can see a video of Hear N’ Aid…it’s a trip!

Launched by Ronnie James Dio and then Dio members Jimmy Bain and Vivian Campbell in 1985, Hear N’ Aid also boasted members of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Dio, Spinal Tap, Blue Oyster Cult and many others.

The resultant song was called “Stars,” and now, Wendy Dio’s got her sights set on cashing in on the track.

Wendy tells Rolling Stone: “I’m going to re-release [‘Stars’] because it only ever came out on vinyl and cassette. So it’ll come out on DVD and CD. I have loads of outtakes for the video.”

We don’t know if the track will be re-released as a single or if the entire Hear N’ Aid album will be re-issued.
