Soundgarden Song Leaks Online — Hear It Now!

King Animal

It’s called “Been Away Too Long.”

Quick, go here and listen to it before the record company fucking tells them to remove it.

The track is supposed to officially premiere (and digital single release) September 27. That’s tomorrow.

The song comes from King Animal, the band’s new album, due out November 13.

“We have an album coming out in the fall,” frontman Chris Cornell said online today.

“It’s kind of hard to describe, it’s sort of picking up where we left off. There’s a lot of different feels on the album. We’re a band where every single member contributes music so that makes it very diverse. It’s a very rich album with a lot of different moods to it.”

Go listen. Then, tell us if you dig it. We’re on the fence. But we’re sort of leaning towards “Not so good.”

I like the riff and the last 2/3 of the song with the interesting layers and time signatures. Not crazy about the vocals in the verses, though. I’d pick any song off of their last 3 studio releases over this one. Hoping for a diverse album with some more mellow DOTU-type material.

I rarely like anything on first listen and I’m a huge fan of Soundgarden. Just not sure about this one. I’m sure it fits perfectly on the album and I know the album will be terrific. This one just doesn’t strike me as a single. The title is just a bit too ordinary. The cool thing about Soundgarden in the evocative nature of their songs and lyrics. Nooses. Cages. Black holes. This just seems a bit too expected? That said, I like it the more the song goes on. The weirder it gets, the better. And this is obviously head and shoulders above 90% of everything else out there today.
