Twasn’t A Bitch Fit: Joey Jordison Blames Tinnitus

Posted by Chris Harris on January 28, 2011 in My Bad, News

The new poster boy for tinnitus

Joey Jordison has come forward to address why he abruptly left a Murderdolls gig mid-set last night (January 27) in Bordeaux, France. I incorrectly assumed that Joey — Slipknot’s drummer — threw a bitch fit when he threw his guitar off and stormed off stage. Sorry, Joey — I had no idea you suffered from tinnitus. I feel like a dick.

“I’m writing to address the situation which took place in Bordeaux on Thursday night,” says Jordison in an online post. “As it has been seen in videos online, I threw my guitar and walked off stage. I want to clear up what exactly happened. I have a condition with my ears called tinnitus, which in my case is very severe, and has been causing me excruciating pain for two years now.”

During last night’s show, Jordison’s tinnitus “was at an extreme,” he says. “I wanted to come out and play the best show that I could. However, due to technical difficulties, and high-end feedback that persisted in the monitors, the pain within my ears became unbearable. I tried to attempt to play after I walked off the first time but it got worse.”

Joey says he’s OK, but needs to keep an eye on the condition to prevent more permanent damage. “I want to apologize to the fans in attendance in Bordeaux; I meant no disrespect whatsoever and I hope that my fans understand this.”

And I want to apologize to you, Joey, for my erroneous assessment.

UPDATE: Now Bravewords is claiming it all stemmed from a disagreement between Joey and his guitar tech. I take my apology back.

It’s amazing how many musicians suffer from this condition. Have you checked out the musician specific page on http://www.ata.org? Also, I believe there are a few blogs out there that have a list of musicians with tinnitus.

Tinnitus ear noises are annoying, continuous or discontinuous and of variable intensity, localized in one or both ears or in the head and perceived as whistling, buzzing, clicks, chirps, puffs or pulses. Since many diseases can give rise to tinnitus, the causes and pathogenesis of this disorder vary depending on the underlying condition that is responsible.

well, that’s really difficult thing to experience especially when you are musician. it’s not really that dangerous but I guess the decease that it will fell into if taken for granted is, I think it’s not that too hard to cure if we just noticed it when it’s still not too late.
