Posted by Chris Harris on June 17, 2013 in New Records, News, Rad

Dethroned and Uncrowned

Good Monday, my ninjas.

It’s a new week, meaning possibilities abound. So why not start this week off with a little Katatonia news?

More than a year after releasing their phenomenal ninth studio opus Dead End Kings, Sweden’s Katatonia will return — with their first release on Kscope.

Called Dethroned And Uncrowned, the album will drop this September.

The record, according to a press release, is basically the last album, but with an even more progressive sound.

That’s phat because I happen to love progressive metal and rock, so…win, win.

Frost Despair Finishing Tracking Next LP

Posted by Chris Harris on June 16, 2013 in New Records, News

Surreal

That’s right, you louse!

Frost Despair is finishing the tracking of their next record, which will be called Surreal.

The Brazilian symphonic black metal act is still working on their debut in Hurricane Studios with producer Sebastian Carsin (Enthroned, Bestial).

The artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco (Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar), who stated: “This illustration for Surreal was forged through the general concept of his title and acclimated in the most dirty and chaotic way, mixing elements biomechanics with nature and science where everything becomes a kind of bestial and psychological heart.”

A release date will be announced soon for the disc.

INVSN

That’s right, people.

For those that don’t know, INVSN is the new alt-rockish band boast Refused’s Dennis Lyxzén as well as Sara Almgren from The International Noise Conspiracy.

Refused, of course, released one of the best records of all time, and briefly reunited to my surprise last year for a short run of shows.

I was at one of the shows in New York. It was stellar.

So, INVSN will release its debut album this fall on Razor & Tie.

Grave To Issue New EP

Posted by Chris Harris on June 16, 2013 in New Records, News

Grave

Happy Father’s Day, people. If you’re a dad, I hope you have a good one.

If you’re not a dad, I hope you lie and tell the bouncers you are so that you can enjoy your local strip club’s annual “$5 Lapdances For Dads” special.

What makes this a Happy Father’s Day for me is news that Swedish death metal act Grave have a new EP coming.

Morbid Ascent will come out later in the year and boast four tracks.

One, “Possessed,” is a Satyricon cover, and if that doesn’t excite you, I’m sorry. You must be new to all of this.

Slipknot Fans Topple Barricade During Download Set

Posted by Chris Harris on June 15, 2013 in News, Video

Slipknot

I was at the Download Festival one year, and let me just tell you…shit was crazy.

At one point, I remember looking back and seeing what I guesstimated to be a billion people.

It was nuts.

The crowd was just as large last night, when Slipknot played the Download Festival, and the crush, jutting forward to see the band, felled a barricade.

The toppling barrier twice interrupted the band’s set, because some people just gotta be dicks.

Video follows at the end of this post.

Anderson Cooper: Not Metal

Posted by Chris Harris on June 15, 2013 in News, Video

Anderson Cooper throws the horns

Solid journalist? Yes.

Nice, cordial dude I met once at a dual CNN/MTV event? Absolutely.

Kvlt? Not one iota.

But the other night, before signing off from his show, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper featured a song, named after him, written by an alleged “metal” band that sounds more punk or hardcore.

The “RidicuList” segment where Anderson throws the horns and pretends to be metal, which all the blogs posted the other day as cool but it’s actually quite lame, at the end of this post.

“Like ‘Uptown Girl’ and ‘Tiny Dancer’ before me, I, Anderson Cooper, am now the subject of a soulful ballad,” the CNN host revealed. “The name of the song? Well, it’s called ‘Anderson Cooper,” which, let’s be honest, has a certain understated charm, much like myself, if I do say so myself. But the band’s name is Cryptic Murmurs, and I think the song really captures my easy-going essence.”

This report claims Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell has listed his North Hollywood, California, home for $1.49 million.

He purchased the house in 2005 for $1.75 million.

“Private entrance with long driveway to 2-car garage and charming front courtyard with lawn and garden. 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Open floor plan ideal for indoor and outdoor entertaining.
