Deftones, Opeth, Black Dahlia Featured On “Saints Row: The Third” Soundtrack

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in News, Rad

Deftones

I have no clue what “Saints Row 3” is, because I own a Wii, and they’ve stopped making games for that system so far as I can tell. And I don’t have the kind of cash to throw away on a PS3. With my luck, I’d buy a PS3 and they’d announce PS4 the next day.

Anyways, the soundtrack for this game is phat. It’s got the Deftones, The Black Dahlia Murder, Goatwhore, Opeth, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Amon Amarth, Between The Buried and Me, and Strapping Young Lad on it. No shit.

“There’s no way to describe ‘Saints Row: The Third’ other than pure, over-the-top fun,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, of Core Games, which I assume is a branch of THQ. “In a sea of games that are doing the same thing over again, it’s incredibly refreshing to take Saints Row in a completely new direction, and incredibly satisfying to see the reaction from fans so far. Today, we all embrace the crazy.”

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in New Records, News

Decadence

Stupid dope!

Maldives-based death metal outfit Nothnegal have, as you know, titled their forthcoming LP Decadence. That there is the fucking artwork for it.

Nice right?

The band’s full-length debut is due throughout much of the globe on January 20, 2012; it drops January 24 in the U.S., through Season Of Mist. The CD was mixed by Greg Reely (Fear Factory, Devin Townsend) and Ahti Kortelainen (Sentenced).

Decadence is Nothnegal’s first official studio release and the first release featuring the current lineup, with Fufu handling both the guitar and vocal duties, Marco on keyboards and Kevin on drums,” says guitarist Hilarl. Cool name.

Early Graves Book West Coast Dates

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in News, Tour Dates

Early Graves

Man, I wish I lived on the West Coast sometimes. Like today.

I learned that Early Graves will be hitting the road for a mini-trek of the Left Coast next month.

Also, it’s cold here on the East Coast. I’d rather be in the sun, on a beach somewhere. Like, say, in California.

Unfortunately, I’d run the risk of bumping into an ex who’d probably cut my throat if she ever saw me again.

Those dates, after the jump. And if you didn’t know already, John Strachan of Early Graves and The Funeral Pyre writes a column for us sometimes. Check out previous installments here.

Attorney: C.C. DeVille Interview Favors His Clients In Poison Suit

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in News

That is poisonous

The attorney for Billy McCarthy and James Stonich — members of a defunct Chicago band known as Kid Rocker — has released a radio interview transcript in which he claims Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille tells McCarthy, “You should have made some money off” the first Poison album.

I smell something. Do you? I smell…a settlement!!!

The suit filed against Poison last month claims the band stole four of Kid Rocker’s tunes. The suit says C.C. tried out for Kid Rocker, and later formed a band with McCarthy called the Screamin’ Mimis. McCarthy claims C.C. took his songs, and turned them into some of Poison’s biggest hits.

This is the transcript:

McCarthy [to C.C. DeVille]: “How many albums has Poison sold in their career?”

DeVille: “20 million records.”

McCarthy: “I haven’t made 20 thousand dollars in my career yet.”

DeVille: “Let me tell you something, Billy. For that first album, you should have made some money… Billy and I used to play in the same band.”

Lock Up Are Touring! Lock Up Are Touring!

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in News, Tour Dates

Lock Up

Spread the word, kids.

Mega metal supergroup Lock Up will embark on its first-ever North American headlining tour this February, with support on the trek from Goatwhore and Strong Intention.
Say what? Now that’s a fucking lineup I can get behind. They should get Nightbitch to open the New York date.

By the way, we have the dates for the trek after the jump.

“After many attempts in the past, sadly to no avail, Lock Up finally gets to make it stateside for a string of shows with our good friends from Louisiana, Goatwhore,” says Lock Up’s Nick Barker. “For us in Lock Up, to play with Goatwhore in the U.S. is like a dream tour, as they are one of our favorite bands — and being good friends with them too only makes this package even more special to us. Be prepared North America ‘cause we’re coming over to blast your minds into deathgrind oblivion!”

I think I can speak for most of North America…We’re prepared.

Avenged Sevenfold Playing Free Show In San Jose

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in News

Avenged Sevenfold

On December 16, following the band’s fall dates on the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar festival, Avenged Sevenfold will be playing a free show in San Jose, California.

The free show happens at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. But there’s a catch — while the concert is free to all fans, regardless of whether they were at the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar festival or not, those with Uproar ticket stubs will be guaranteed free entrance and first pick of seats.

That’s not cool. All the poor kids were sort of counting on getting into this free show.

Avenged Sevenfold — a band I don’t like, but realize a lot of people do — will be headlining the “Buried Alive” tour (morbid name, no?) with Hollywood Undead, Asking Alexandria, and Black Veil Brides.

Molotov Solution’s Van Gets Jacked

Posted by Chris Harris on November 17, 2011 in News, This Blows

Molotov Solution

This blows — and will likely leave a sour taste in the collective mouth of Molotov Solution, who had their fucking van broken into while on tour in Montreal this week.

The incident happened on Monday (November 14), and the band is very upset, having lost a lot of expensive shit. Fucking savages in that town. I was in Montreal once, and got in a fight with a bunch of Frenchies. Just me and bunch of Frenchies. It was sick! I totally scared them off, man.

I yelled, and called them pussies as they ran off into the wintery night. I later awoke in my hotel’s elevator. That was funny.

“Our van was broken into this morning and we had a lot of very valuable things stolen from us, not to mention our passenger window was smashed and we are freezing our asses off driving to Boston,” Molotov Solution says on their Facebook page.

“If you would like to help out or support please head over to blkmarketmerch.com and buy some of our merchandise or new album,” the band points out.

Coheed And Cambria Rejoined By Drummer Josh Eppard

Posted by Chris Harris on November 16, 2011 in News

She likes Coheed

Coheed and Cambria have announced the return of drummer Josh Eppard to the fold. Eppard rejoins the band following the departure of Chris Pennie, who jumped ship recently because he woke up from his coma and realized he was somehow in Coheed and Cambria.

The band issued a statement on Eppard’s return: “We didn’t originally plan to make a big splash about this, but when Chris made his announcement, we were ultimately compelled to. We didn’t want anyone to be concerned about the state of the band, and trying to keep things quiet was proving to be really tough. And besides, we’re just really excited and wanted to share that feeling with you.”

OK. And…?

“Chris Pennie is a dear friend, a superb bandmate and one of the best drummers in the world. He brought a workmanship and sense of professionalism to Coheed that completely improved us as a band, and allowed us to reach new heights. He will always be a member of the Coheed family, and we ask you to support all his endeavors.

“As the songs for the new record began twisting into shape, it slowly became apparent that these songs were very dynamic, and could truly flourish with the groove-oriented approach that Josh naturally brings to the table,” Coheed continue. “We also missed Josh as a person — what he meant to us as friends and the energy and humor he exudes. But this isn’t about nostalgia; it’s about who we are now, and what we can achieve musically and as a family, together going forward.

Six Feet Under Frontman Appears In Car Commercial

Posted by Chris Harris on November 16, 2011 in News, Video

Chris loves his Porsche

Fuck!

I saw this four days ago on Facebook, and then totally forgot about it.

Head to the end of this post for a must-see video. Death metal is now being used in Florida to sell used cars.

Six Feet Under’s frontman Chris Barnes appears in a commercial for Park Auto Mall, a late-model used-car dealer located in the Tampa Bay area. Seems Barnes bought his 2003 Porsche Boxster S vehicle there in August 2011, and he thinks you should go there too to get your next car.

Metallouca’s Lulu Falls Off Top 200 Albums Chart

Posted by Chris Harris on November 16, 2011 in New Records, News

Kelly Brook hates Lou Reed

This makes me smile.

It isn’t often that a record enters the Top 200 albums chart, only to fall off the list the following week. But Lulu isn’t just any record. It’s a monstrosity featuring Metallica and Lou Reed — a collabo I like to refer to as Metallouca.

During its second week in stores, Lulu sold a little over 3,000 copies in the United States. That gives it a two-week total of 16,000 scans.

That’s nothing, folks. Nothing. World music and new age albums sell more. This is sad. Metallica have officially gone off the deep end. Officially.

Three years ago, when Death Magnetic dropped, it sold nearly half a million copies. Even St. Anger sold more than 400,000 units.
