But there are new A Perfect Circle songs written — and they will be performed on the band’s forthcoming summer tour, according to guitarist Billy Howerdel — who we spoke to last fall. He claims in a new podcast interview that APC will road test some of the new material on the trek, announced earlier this week.
Howerdel explained that the band will be “playing some of the new songs” on this tour, “so that’s always an exciting prospect.” Exciting indeed.
“We’re still kind of in the creative process of them, but we have every intention of playing them live,” Billy continued. And let’s just say this: Sometimes, there’s no better way to tell if you’re on the right track for the new record like playing songs for your fans. If they respond by pelting you with rotten fruit, you need to rethink some things.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Billy says of playing the new shit. “I’m also looking forward to getting back on a tour and playing big enough places to actually have a production of sorts.”
But Howerdel made one thing clear: there won’t be a new disc any time soon. “Songs will trickle in as they’re written and as needed, so maybe next year that will come together as a bigger collection of songs. But right now, there won’t be an album.”
Meanwhile, APC frontman Maynard James Keenan is busy writing new songs with Tool, and…well, a new Tool album will obviously take precedence over a new APC LP, so I’m predicting new APC late in 2012 or early 2013. If the planet hasn’t disintegrated by then.
