Nope. Anette Olzon claims she was fired.
The former Nightwish singer tells Prog magazine she believes she was fired in 2012 after revealing her third pregnancy.
If that’s true, that’s kind of fucked up and really doesn’t alienate the band’s female fanbase at all.
Olzon’s departure from the group came seven years after previous frontwoman Tarja Turunen was let go publicly.
Nightwish’s split with Olzon, a statement released at the time explained, was made “in mutual understanding.”
But now Olzon tells Prog she did not leave of her own accord.
“I have been getting frustrated with people saying I left the band — because I didn’t. I was fired exactly as Tarja was fired, but maybe in a more quiet way.”
Olzon believes her pregnancy was the driving force behind the band’s decision to shitcan her. “That’s how I see it,” she says. “Why [else] should they kick me out when they got to know I was pregnant?
“We, of course, had some problems in 2009, but we had a good tour and there was nothing else coming until then.”
All I’m saying is, Floor Jansen better keep those legs shut.
Olzon will release her debut solo album, Shine, next month.
Why didn’t she come out a year ago with this information? “The reason I didn’t say this a year ago is because I didn’t want to state something so negative. I felt really bad about the situation — it was quite a big divorce.”
