Anthrax had been in the studio in recent months tracking a selection of cover tunes.
These will now surface on March 18 in the form of an EP called Anthem
Scott Ian recently said in an interview that the effort would include covers of AC/DC’s “T.N.T.,” Boston’s “Smokin’,” Cheap Trick’s “Big Eyes,” Journey’s “Keep On Runnin’,” Rush’s “Anthem” and Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak.”
“It was a lot of fun, especially because a lot of those [songs] aren’t, I guess, normal for us or like so much of our repertoire — although they are because they’re songs we all knew,” says Ian.
“Maybe on paper the idea of us doing something like that seems weird, until you hear them and then it makes sense,” Scott says. “And Joey‘s performance on the Journey song, specifically, really blows my mind. Someone mentioned that Neal Schon better not hear this or we might lose our singer.”
So, that’s going down.
In related news, Anthrax have announced that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will step in for Rob Caggiano, who recently quit.
Donais will temporarily fill in for Anthrax’s upcoming tour dates in India, the series of Soundwave Festival shows in Australia, and the North American Metal Alliance Tour.
