The other day, I offered the following theory…and I have offered many times — in various forums and even on this site — before: It’s only cool to SAY you’re into Anvil because of that movie, but no one really likes Anvil. And, judging from the paltry traffic that post generated, I think this earth-shattering theory holds water.
Meanwhile, I think my adroit buddy Alex said it best the other day: “While ‘Anvil: The Story of Anvil’ is a compelling bit of cinema, and Metal on Metal is an entertaining jog down memory lane, there’s ultimately a REASON why Anvil were left behind … they were NEVER EXCEPTIONAL.”
Truly, I could not have said it better myself. Honestly. This dude Alex thinks about music in a much different way than I do, with my neanderthal-like brain.
But, it appears someone must be supporting Anvil, in some fashion: a new interview with frontman Steve “Lips” Kudrow confirms it.
“What has essentially happened is that I no longer work my day job,” says Lips. “I’m making my ends meet from the band. Am I making more? I don’t know, probably. But it’s not like I’m buying a limousine. I’m existing and not having to worry about going to a job. And that’s great; I’ve worked 30 years to get there.”
Good for Lips. He’s living the dream…and I am not joking. To be able to do what you love without the distraction of a necessary day job is my dream, anyways. What’s your dream? I’m kidding…I don’t need that burden.
