Beavis and Butt-Head To Make Boob Tube Return

Beavis and Butt-Head

When I read some of the comment posts on Blabbermouth, it often reminds me of Beavis and Butt-Head, the long-dormant MTV cartoon from comic genius Mike Judge about the ultimate basement-dwelling metalheads. I was a huge fan of the show, and let’s be honest: That show introduced us to some incredible old school metal videos…videos MTV otherwise never played. I think its fair to say the cartoon introduced me to a whole bunch of bands during the 1990s that I (growing up on the ass-end of Long Island, where rock radio was virtually dead) would have remained under my untuned, adolescent radar.

Today, I head on over to MetalSucks, and lo and behold, the lead story’s about how there are 30 episodes of B&B on the way. Say what? Just days after Faith No More covered the Jackson Five in Williamsburg? What a week.

Writes the good Axl Rosenberg: “The show was hilarious, deceptively intelligent, and a reflection of pretty much every great male friendship ever. (In our relationship, Vince and I are in agreement that he’s the Beavis and I’m the Butt-Head. Which one are you?)” I’m Beavis. In fact, my buddy the Goat called me Beavis Monday night, as we were walking back from FNM through the streets of Brooklyn, unsuccessfully working these two actress chicks [Edit: Don’t date actresses. Just trust me.]

According to MS, Judge — who also wrote Office Space — is outlining 30 new episodes of the show, and writing as we speak. Judge wants the show to return just as it was during the 1990s. It won’t be high-tech animation, which is amazing. Imagine they tried to come back with a 3-D version? Fuck that noise. Only bad news is, instead of Rob Zombie videos, the new Beavis and Butt-head will rip apart contemporary videos. Poppy shit, I guess.

Like Axl, I somehow feel like the show will end up on MTV, because its probably legally owned by Viacom. That would be a fucking shame. I think Adult Swim would be a more appropriate fit. Hell, I’d watch them if they were only available online. Either way, this is awesome news.
