This weekend, if you’re in the Fullerton, California, area, you should hit up the Slidebar for a two-night benefit event — the proceeds from which will go to help injured Deftones bassist Chi Cheng.
The benefit is set for this Friday and Saturday (January 14 and January 15) and will benefit the One Love For Chi organization. A similar benefit was organized in 2010. Guests expected to perform this weekend include members of Dredg, Shinedown, Hoobastank, Papa Roach, Anew Revolution, P.O.D., Atreyu, Anthrax, ex-Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch and others.
Of course, Chi was injured more than two years ago in a car accident in northern California. He has remained hospitalized in what doctors are calling a “minimally conscious” state. I wish Chi would come back to us. His story is one of the saddest I have ever heard. Poor dude. He is such a nice guy, too. Could not have happened to a nicer dude.
Benefits for Cheng have been ongoing, ever since the accident happened back in 2008. The One Love for Chi organization has raised funds to meet the growing costs of Cheng’s medical bills. The bassist was dropped by his insurance company shortly after the accident. Fucking insurance company vultures!
