So, Byzantine is back. Not sure how many of you care out there but The PRP broke this item yesterday and I debated posting it, but ultimately decided against it. But after careful reconsideration, and because its a slow news day, I thought better of it. So, yeah — West Virginia’s Byzantine is back. Whoopee!
Frontman and guitarist Chris “OJ” Ojeda revealed the news in a statement, confirming recent rumors of a reunion. I didn’t hear those rumors, but then again, I don’t know many people who would have been talking about Byzantine. Not like I have Byzantine conversations all the time if ever. The last time I even thought about this band, the Twin Towers were still standing.
After playing three recent reunion gigs, the boys thought better of their hiatus. Everyone was in except Tony Rohrbough, the other guitarist. “After some thought, he decided to not return back to playing in Byzantine,” the statement says. “We respect Tony’s decision to move on with other musical endeavors just as Tony respects our decision to continue under the name Byzantine.”
Now they’ve got some young chippie in there named Brain Henderson. He also plays with a band called Split Nixon. Ain’t that a hoot. So, I guess there’s a tour or album on the way. Byzantine will update us in the coming weeks.
