If rumors are true, Century Media could soon be purchased by a major label, just like Roadrunner Records’ founder sold his company to Warner Bros.

It seems Century Media is being offered to Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal.

Blabbermouth claims Sony is gunning for Century Media, and will leave Century Media founder Robert Kampf at the helm.

Kampf would no comment on ongoing negotiations to Blabbermouth, but he did confirm his interest in a major-label acquisition in order to give Century Media a stronger footing at a time of diminishing worldwide sales of sound recordings, the site says.

According to Kampf, Century Media had its strongest year in 2014, which explains the major’s sniffing around for some ownership stake in it.

My immediate concern is the people who work at Century Media. When Roadrunner was sold to Warner Bros., layoffs followed. I just hope if the label is sold, good people who’ve helped build up the label don’t lose their jobs.
