Chad Smith — drummer extraordinaire — will soon be leaving one ridiculously-named band to return to his first ridiculously-named band because…well, the latter actually pays the bills. Yes, Chad Smith is writing new material with the Red Hot Chili Peppers which has Sammy Hagar supremely bummed.
See, Chad hooked up with Sammy, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and guitarist Joe Satriani teamed up for “rock supergroup” Chickenfoot, and Sammy wants to work on the next Chickenfoot disc. But the Red Hot Chili Peppers take priority for Chad, obviously. So will Chickenfoot continue with a new drummer.
“Chad’s a problem, I’m gonna tell everybody straight up,” Hagar said in a recent interview.
“To me, Chad is Chickenfoot. But Chad’s, you know…the Chili Peppers are…they’ve been writing for a year and they haven’t even started recording, and I just don’t see a window now. ‘Cause once they start recording, Chad’s never gonna be able to get a break, and then when they’re done with that, they’re gonna go out on the road for a year and a half. So we really don’t know what to do right now, but I think we’re gonna probably play with a few different guys and see what happens.”
That chick can’t wait for new RHCP.
