As you know, Pelican are an awesome instrumental band. I, myself, have often felt the need to write imaginary lyrics to their songs.
Chino Moreno of Deftones is just like me.
He tells Revolver that he used to write lyrics while listening to Pelican — a band you should check out if you’ve never.
“I hear the music and I just start kinda singing along to it,” says Chino, who was talking about his new project Palms.
“Usually the first time I hear something, I’ll get ideas. I would listen to Pelican records back in the day and write my own lyrics to them. I remember telling [Pelican’s] Larry [Herweg], ‘Dude, I wrote a whole set of lyrics for your song!’ And he was like, ‘Track it!’”
Moreno never did, “but that’s just natural thing when I hear music, especially if it’s instrumental music.”
I’d be down to hear a record from Pelican, with vocals by Chino.
Fuck, I’d listen to fucking Lil Wayne if Chino was somehow involved.
