After embarrassing the shit out of them in front of the world and perhaps more importantly, Soundgarden, Michael Todd is no longer the bassist for Coheed and Cambria. The band did the wise thing and fucking fired his ass. It was really only a matter of time.
Last month, Todd was released from prison — two weeks after his arrest on armed robbery charges. He was busted July 10 shortly before the band’s performance at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, as the support act for Soundgarden. According to police, Todd walked into a Walgreens in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and threatened to blow up the store with what was apparently a fake bomb — unless he was given a ton of OxyContin.
In a statement, Coheed And Cambria confirmed they dropped Todd “after a lot of thought, introspection and discussion.” The band “will be continuing our journey without bassist Michael Todd.”
The statement goes on to lie that the decision was “mutual” and that “Michael was a great contributor; our hearts go out to his family and to all those who appreciate his talents. We wish him nothing but the very best. We are currently writing and recording songs for a new album, as well as a couple compilations this fall. We are very excited about how the songs are shaping up and can’t wait to share them with you.”
The band thanked Wes Styles “for filling in for the live gigs in the interim, including the upcoming South America and Mexico shows. A belated thanks to Rob Gill for covering in Boston; and the biggest thank you to all of you for your unwavering support. you for your unwavering support. A new chapter awaits.”
