What a fucking way to start the end of the last week of summer! News of a new Cynic record — why, that’s cause for celebration if ever I’ve heard cause. If you’ve never given Cynic a listen, be excited: Your life going forward will be known as post-Cynic.
Cynic are progressive. I don’t even know if the qualify as metal sometimes. They sound like Bright Eyes if Devin Townsend were Conor Oberst and not Devin Townsend. Metalheads love them and you will too. Thanks to MySpace — the new Friendster — you can check out Cynic’s songs before you head to iTunes to buy everything they’ve ever released. Don’t worry…you’d only be buying two LPs, because Cynic’s third album is coming down the pike.
After a successful U.S. tour with Devin and Between the Buried and Me, as well as a headlining run with Intronaut and Dysrhythmia, the guys are reading to write. “It’s time to get ready for album number 3,” Cynic wrote in a new and exciting MySpace update. “The first baby steps into this gigantic process are being taken right now, creating little embryos of songs that will turn into fully fledged Cynic tunes over the course of the following months.”
I’m giddier than Louie Anderson at the Chinese buffet.
