Cynic Releasing Demos Set In March

I feel like it was just yesterday that Cynic churned out that Carbon-Based Anatomy EP, which was somewhere between OK and awesome. The jury of my mind is still out on that one.

In March, Cynic will release The Portal Tapes, a collection of demos from the band’s early days.

The effort drops March 27 on Season of Mist.

The demo date back to the mid-1990s and were recorded after the release of Cynic’s debut album Focus, under the name Portal. Cynic founders Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert were accompanied on these recordings by guitarist Jason Gobel (Gordian Knot, Cynic), bassist Chris Kringel (Cynic) and vocalist Aruna Abrams.

The set boasts 10 tracks, including “Endless Endeavors,” “Karma’s Plight,” “Circle,” “Costumed in Grace,” “Crawl Above,” “Mirror Child,” “Road to You,” “Belong” and “Not the Same.”

The Portal Tapes will be available in a strictly limited one time pressing of 5,000 digipak CDs and 1,000 vinyl LPs.
