As I suspected, the Death playing Metallica’s Orion Music + More festival is not the same Death you and I know and love.
Death To All is not part of the Orion Music + More festival at all, but people — including some blogs — were confused and ran stories claiming the metal Death was playing, not the black protopunk band from the 1970s which is performing at Orion.
Eric Greif, Death’s manager, went on Facebook today to clear up the confusion.
“I’ve heard from a dozen sources that Death is listed as playing Metallica‘s Orion Fest. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I think maybe someone booked in that 70s black protopunk band of 60-something-year-olds called Death (who are originally from Detroit) that we allow to co-exist (since there is no earthly way they could ever be mistaken for our Death),” Eric writes.
“Both bands own U.S. trademarks on aspects of the name…so there has been no conflict. But this is DUMB with a capital D. Please write to complain about the confusion.”
Meanwhile, another date has slipped out for the 2013 Death To All tour.
That date is April 18 in Detroit at Saint Andrew’s Hall.
