If you call yourself a Deftones fan but don’t know about Eros, it’s time to trade in that wallet chain for an Abercrombie and Fitch turtle neck.
I still get a little choked up when I think about Chi Cheng, and how much I was looking forward to him recovering. Of course, Chi didn’t, and died two weeks ago. Since then, so much else has happened in the metal world that I think people have already forgotten about Chi.
Deftones frontman Chino Moreno hasn’t, and claims it would be more appropriate now that Cheng’s gone to release the album they had to shelves in 2008.
That album, Eros, was said to be a return to early Deftones style, according to the precious few who got to hear it.
Eros was placed on the back-burner after Chi’s accident, and as you well know, Deftones has carried on, releasing two albums since making the record we’ve never heard.
But that soon may change.
Moreno tells Artisan News it makes sense to share with fans the last music Chi worked on with the band. And I could not agree more.
“I think more so now probably than ever,” Eros will be release, Chino says. “I actually went back and listened to some of it recently and… you know, I don’t know, when or, you know… but I feel it’s a little more appropriate now for us to think about that as to, you know, in the last few years to think about.”
