This month, it’ll happen, presumably.
The members of the Deftones will be getting together to start composing new tracks for the band’s next opus.
Chino Moreno of Deftones and Crosses says so…I think. Or maybe said so months ago and they’re just getting to posting the chat now. Or maybe he said it weeks ago and means 2014. But…I’m confused.
He spoke with RollingStone.com and said he hopes the band will begin writing new material before March’s arrival. I think.
“We just finished a tour, so we’re gonna take the rest of the year off. We’re gonna start writing some music early next year. I just moved to Oregon and Stephen is down in L.A. and Abe and Frank are in Sacramento, and Sergio is in Europe. The idea is to just get together. The last couple records, we just threw ourselves into a small room and started playing.
“We just work organically, which I think works better than me writing a song and saying, ‘Hey guys, learn this.’ Hopefully in February we’ll spend a couple weeks together, and just kind of get together and write music.”
See, the band didn’t JUST finish a tour (the last shows they played were in November, as far as I can tell), making me think this interview was done some time ago and only just published because Moreno’s Crosses project releases its debut album tomorrow.
But then again, if it was a recent interview (within this year), that means the Deftones are doing nothing for the rest of ’14 and working on new shit this same time next year.
Either way, I wonder why Chino moved to Oregon? Seems like an odd choice.
