The thing is, the Deftones are awesome. They’re one of those rare bands beloved by all manner of metalhead, and an influential group that’s consistently released shining, standout material.
But if there’s one thing the Deftones can do better than any other band I’ve ever heard, it’s cover tunes.
The Deftones have taken tracks by artists as varied as Sade and The Smiths, and made those songs their own. Rather than rehash, the Deftones reinvent.
Now, the Deftones will be spending the next few days tracking a bunch of new covers.
Those sessions are already believed to have begun.
The cover tunes will be used as b-sides for the Deftones’ upcoming seventh studio album.
Singer Chino Moreno had previously hinted that the band would be covering tunes by Earth, Wind & Fire and Elvis Presley — both of which I couldn’t even possibly imagine, but the Deftones will do it justice.
The Deftones album — the title for which has not been announced — is due in stores this fall.
Additionally, the Deftones have booked a gig for October 10 at The Warfield in San Francisco. The show will feature that unlistenable act Scars on Broadway.
