Now, this makes perfect sense.
If I were to describe Devin Townsend’s solo sound, across albums like Infinity, Terria, and Physicist, I’d have to say he’s technically-superior progressive metal. So the fact that he may have recruited Paul Masvidal for his upcoming album Deconstruction makes perfect sense to me.
After all, Masvidal is the guitarist, singer and one of the founding members of progressive metal outfit Cynic. From Devin’s latest “Thanks” on Facebook, it appears Devin’s tapped Paul to provide guest vocals on the album, as he has with Gojira’s Joe Duplantier, Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato, Between The Buried and Me’s Tommy Rogers and Gwar’s Oderus Urungus.
I’ve always argued that people need more Cynic in their lives, and I have also argued — ever since Devin told me that Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt would likely be singing on the effort — that this record is going to be the best thing to happen to music since the advent of sound. I seriously can not take it anymore, Devin — please send me early mixes of the record. I don’t care if they’re not completed! I just need to hear this record.
