Not a day goes by that I don’t think of Chi Cheng, the Deftones’ bassist. In 2008, after he was in a car accident that’s left him bed-ridden and in a coma ever since, I wrote about his situation while I was still working at MTV News. His story saddens me even as I write this; at least once a day, I think about Chi, and send positivity his way because I would love to see that guy stand again.
Cheng has been making slow progress, but progress nonetheless. He continues to receive treatments and surgeries, which means his medical bills continue to mount.
Something tells me The Dillinger Escape Plan developed a close relationship with The Deftones when both bands toured together this year.
The Dillinger Escape Plan are auctioning off a signed drumhead that they destroyed onstage in Pomona, California, while touring with the D-Tones.
All proceeds from the auction will go to help Cheng, and I think that’s pretty fucking rad. The auction is up to $475 now. Go make a bid, if you’ve got cash to burn. It’s for a good cause and a good dude.
