Their new record, Abrahadabra has been out for a few weeks now, and today, I get an email from the label’s publicist — who I worked with at MTV News for four years…remember me now? — saying the band’s North American trek begins this Friday, and “the band has decided to launch [the album’s] artwork with this trek.” See the old art here.
I’m fucking all kinds of confused. The first cover looks like some humanoid robot with octopus tentacles, and now, they’ve changed the art to make it more sinister…with a skull and curved horns that look very phallic. I wonder what this is all about? I mean, the first version of the artwork was kind of lame. This is harder-looking shit, to be sure. But still…
“Art-wise, it’s a subtle change and will IN NO WAY alter the musical content of this album,” the email reads. “Moving forward, this new cover will grace all the different versions once the album is re-pressed, so the original pressing is now — you’ve got it — a collector’s item!”
That’s cool. Too bad the labels only send out download links instead of hard copies nowadays. Bummer. I could have made money on eBay off of some loser kid who still likes Dimmu.
