Dream Theater Going “American Idol” On Us With Drummer Search

Dream Theater

Fuck, man. So, not only do we not know today who Dream Theater’s new drummer is, the band has decided to get all “The Apprentice” with us and turn their quest for the next Mike Portnoy into a reality TV show or something called either “The Dream” or “Drummer Doc.” The latter sounds lame, the first — awesome. But, I think it’s “Drummer Doc.”

Anyways, this show or documentary film is going to chronicle the band’s search in New York for their next drummer.

The drummers competing for the seat Portnoy so willingly vanquished are Thomas Lang, Aquiles Priester, Virgil Donati, Mike Mangini, Marco Minneman, Derek Roddy, and Peter Wildoer. Nope…no Joey Jordison. Let the hate begin.

Everything about this seems unnecessary and I am not convinced this is going to be engaging at all. And it really makes a joke of something that’s real serious for Dream Theater fans.

The clip also contains video interviews with the band about the emotions they dealt with when Mike left. You have to go to their Facebook for the video, and sign up for Roadrunner’s email list. Sorry there’s no embed — but I wonder…was this the band’s idea or the label’s?
