Yes, people — it’s official. Dream Theater have hit a recording studio and Mike Portnoy’s sitting at home on his couch, crying into a bag of Fritos. So does this mean they actually have a drummer? I’d imagine so. Don’t bands usually track drums first? But who is the new drummer. Is it Marco Minnemann? Guess we’ll just have to wait for that official announcement.
John Petrucci, the band’s guitarist, went on Twitter today to announce the joyous news: “First day in studio [and] the dawn of a new era for Dream Theater. Can’t wait to get the music flowing.”
Guess we know who the new face of Dream Theater’s going to be, huh? With Mike out, and James LaBrie piping in early on, I figured LaBrie would be the band’s new mouthpiece. But Petrucci’s the one, people — he even slipped the news about the drummer auditions, as they were going down.
“Auditions went great and we do have someone but we are spending some time getting everything in order before making an official announcement,” Tweeted Petrucci. “Let me just say that we are all incredibly excited about our choice and just bursting at the seams to let the world know!”
I wonder if Mike is going to issue a statement today, wishing the band well. I guess it would be a gentlemanly thing to do, but fuck that noise — I think Portnoy needs to maintain the radio silence until at least another month.
