It happened last night, and thank Odin, Sebastian Bach was there to bring us all the following photo and a Twitter account of history being made: Duff McKagan came out on stage and played four songs with Axl Rose’s newfangled Guns N’ Roses.
The gig happened at London’s 02 Arena and Duff — who bailed on GN’R in 1997 — came out and performed “You Could Be Mine,” a cover of Rose Tattoo’s “Nice Boys,” “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” and “Patience.”
In an interview, Axl Rose says that it came about by accident; they ran into each other because they happened to be sharing the same hotel. He told the crowd: “There was this guy at the end of my hallway playing all this loud music and shit. What the fuck? Oh — it’s Duff!” It was the first time since 1993 that the two shared a stage.
Only guitarist Izzy Stradlin has previously guested with Rose’s new version of the band, making a handful of appearances in 2006 when Rose and the dudes played a bunch of shows in New York.
No…this doesn’t mean we’ll ever get a reunion of the original GN’R. That’s just never gonna fucking happen people. But it’s cool Duff was down to play those four songs. I witnessed the Izzy performances; let’s just say I would rather have seen Duff out there with GN’R.
