Ex-Obscura Members Launch Alkaloid

Well, that was fucking fast.

Just days ago, we told you about the unceremonious departures of Hannes Grossmann and Christian Muenzner, and now, the two have announced they’ve formed a new group with Aborted’s Danny Tunker.

The new band is called Alkaloid. How metal.

The band’s frontman is classical composer Florian Magnus Maier (a.k.a. Morean) on vocals and guitars; Morean is known for his orchestral collaboration with Devin Townsend and Paradise Lost, as well as his work with Dark Fortress.

Drummer Hannes Grossmann comments:

“As sad as things have turned out with Obscura, I’m really happy that the songs Christian Muenzner and I had initially written for their next record will find a new home in Alkaloid. However, I don’t see Alkaloid as a ‘tech-death’ band, because we just aren’t. The music is definitely prog, but in terms of dynamics, song structures, harmonics and rhythms, it’s just too diverse to be put into a small sub-genre.”

The band has just started to record their debut album.

The release can be expected in early 2015.
