Guest Column

By now, you should know the drill. We’ve been having musicians from across metal’s grand spectrum pen brief guest columns for us on a number of engaging topics: must-read books, must-see films, and bands you may not know but absolutely should. Today’s column comes from Adam Weber from Embryonic Devourment.

Scolex is a brutal old school sounding Death Metal band from the Bay Area of California, in the vein of Grave, Autopsy, etc. In fact, Eric Cutler has just joined their ranks. They have a demo released thus far and are recording a second one soon. For more info go check their Facebook page.

Project Z
Project Z is a progressive jazz/fusion band, and they never cease to amaze me with their seemingly flawless instrumentation. I believe it is mostly free form, on-the-fly playing, with rough arrangements. I can listen to this forever; a great alternative to tech death metal.

Crypt Infection
Crypt Infection is an underground death metal band from Ventura, California. They’re brutal techy death while keeping catchy arrangements in the vein of early Suffocation, Decrepit Birth, etc. Keep an eye out for these guys!
