By now, you should know the drill. We’ve been having musicians from across metal’s grand spectrum pen brief guest columns for us on a number of engaging topics: must-read books, must-see films, and bands you may not know but absolutely should. Today’s column comes from Jochen Engelking, a member of Black Space Riders. Go check them out on Facebook.
The Moth Gatherer
This band from Sweden has released their debut album A Bright Celestial Light in 2013. Two guys …. I don’t know them personally — on the pictures on their Facebook site, they look really YOUNG! They play a very atmospheric but heavy music.
Calm and beautiful parts change into sludgy, noisey eruptions. Amazing! Long tracks, proggy structures; Definitely not easy to listen to. But you should try! It’s worth it!
Sludge again! Again? Yes! Four badass guys from my homeland Germany. There are plans to be playing live together.
Their new album Hymns to Pan is very heavy, dark, mystical and slow. The track “Mount Nysa” from the album before is — for me — a kind of “Sludge-Hit” … if possible at all.
After two sludgy, creepy Heavy-Riff-Monsters something more “easy” and “light.” Pothead have been around since the early ’90; they’re kind of an “institution” in Germany but you probably have never heard of them in the States — although two of the three guys are originally from the U.S.
They are based in Berlin and they play a pretty simple, melodic at the same time, massive and cool kind of ROCK. They have quite a few of followers here and seem to be doing everything really D.I.Y. This song is from ’95.
