Guest Column: Three Bands You May Not Know But Should By Brandon Gallagher Of Old Wounds

Guest Column

We’ve reached out to our metal and hard rock brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.

The new topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we continue this ongoing series with an entry from Brandon Gallagher, drummer of Old Wound, whose debut album drops February 26 on Glory Kid Ltd.

This is my current favorite band, no questions asked. They keep it short and never really seem to slow down. It’s an eclectic mix of bands like Curl Up and Die, Outbreak, and Converge. Endless Disgust was my favorite EP to come out last year for sure and I’m extremely stoked to see what they do next.

These dudes are playing straight Isis worship mixed with Explosions in The Sky and it rules. I’m also really into bands who know their gear and have great tone. As nerdy as that may sound, it’s totally important. We’ve had the pleasure of touring with them last summer, and to have just seen them play only a few weeks ago really showed how much they’ve grown as a band. They continue to get better and better. Can’t wait for their LP.

Every time I see this band, I honestly can’t do anything but bang my head with maximum force. Each riff is a homage to bands like Slayer, Entombed, and Spazz which is definitely OK in my book. Oh, and did I mention they are a three-piece without a bass player? Yeah, it rules. Their split with Hatewaves is going to be TIGHT.
