By now, you should know the drill. We’ve been having musicians from across metal’s grand spectrum pen brief guest columns for us on a number of engaging topics: must-read books, must-see films, and bands you may not know but absolutely should. Today’s column comes from Ven, vocalist of Dead Earth Politics.

One of the genres that I don’t feel is as widely distributed in the U.S. as it should be is power metal. I love me some power metal. Europe is AWESOME for their power metal and Sweden’s Tad Morose definitely needs a listen.

Now fronted by ex-vocalist for equally kick ass metal outfit, Steel Attack, Tad Morose puts its stamp on the “grapefruit grab” for sure.

Continuing on the Euro Train I want to push Stormwarrior from Germany. Everythinge they write must end with “Ye Olde English” E. It’s cheesy and brilliant — couple that with their pro-Odin chants and lyrics and you will find yourself with some epic Norse goodness.

Retarted Elf. Yes. Retarted Elf. Why? Because I have and always will love these guys. Defunct but always defunky, this Austin original outfit was a heavy influence on my teenage years before my family moved to McAllen. Metal elements were definitely there but these cats were funk and groove driven.

From tunes like “Mutha Fuck This and Mutha Fuck That” to ballads like “My Friend,” these dudes ran the gamut. Cheers, Wubba Luv.
