Guest Column: Three Bands You May Not Know But Should By Infected Flesh’s Seth Van de Loo

Guest Column

We’ve reached out to our metal and hard rock brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.

The new topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we continue this ongoing series with an entry from Infected Flesh‘s Seth Van de Loo.

The first band I think everyone should check out is Resurgency from Greece. This band surprised me with an album that not only refers to the early 90′s death metal episode, but also these guys definitely don’t just copy another band. Songs are catchy and all songs have their own story to tell. It doesn’t get boring anywhere. Technically these fellas master their instruments, but perfection or speed are not their highest priority, the songwriting and all-over atmosphere of the album is, just like in the good old days.

The second one is Skeletal Remains from California. Like Resurgency their music takes you back to the early 90′s or even late 80′s in this case. Having a sound that refers to bands like Death, Gorguts and Deicide combined with vocals Martin van Drunen style, will make lots of people happy. I can’t say this band is original, but when the all over songwriting and quality is so good as it is in this case, I don’t care about that for one minute. This video will explain it even better.

Last but not least is Portal from Australia. Portal is hard to explain. They are unique and either you get the picture or you don’t.
