We’ve reached out to our metal brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.
The new topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we continue this ongoing series with an entry written by Obscura’s Steffen Kummerer.
NoNeuclid is a fantastic and unique band from the Netherlands/Germany featuring Obscura bassist Linus Klausenitzer and Dark Fortress members V. Santura, Morean and Seraph. Their music is somewhere between an extreme version of Morbid Angel and flamenco shredding combined with the composition skills of a classic composer on acid. The band is playing shows with full orchestras. Check out “The Digital Diaspora” from their debut abum to get a clue.
Last Chance to Reason
Last Chance to Reason is a pretty young band from Maine. The concept is more or less to combine the visual effects of video games with progressive extreme music. All musicians are highly talented and I can just recommend the group to those who are into The Faceless’ Planetary Duality record from 2009.
Last but not least, I can highly recommend Ihsahn’s first solo record, The Adversary. In my eyes and ears, it is pretty much underrated but if you are into prog extreme metal with some black metal colors, check out this masterpiece. Listen to the closing track “The Pain Is Still Mine” to get a clue about combining Queen with Emperor.
