By now, you should know the drill.
We’ve been having musicians from across metal’s grand spectrum pen brief guest columns for us on a number of engaging topics: must-read books, must-see films, and bands you may not know but absolutely should.
Today’s column was written by Septycal Gorge guitarist Marco Lasano; hear the Gorge here.
This band formed from the ashes of the most famous Discordance Axis I think Gridlink is (was) one of the most ferocious grindcore bands out there.
They released this year their farewell album Longhena, one of my favorite 2014 records right now. I can describe it as ultra fast and avant-garde grindcore with almost “epic” and futuristic moments.
Cool, isn’t it???
This is a noise/powerviolence duo from Seattle. This band combines mechanical and automatic noise walls and the best U.S. powerviolence.
Being just two people (guitar and drums and voice) doesn’t seem to be a problem. Sounds are huge and the purpose is very interesting.
I would like them to be considered a little more, maybe outside the hardcore scene.
This is a math rock band with great tapping melodies and an ass kicking drummer. I don’t know if they are still active but I never found precise news about these guys on the net.
I only know that their 2009 Aye Aye Porcupine is an awesome and melodic math masterpiece played with crazy ideas and it has “only” 6,000 views on YouTube. Really don’t know how is this possible. It’s not extreme metal? Well, fuck you then.
